University School hockey team had great senior class

COLUMBUS It wasn’t the way the University School hockey team was hoping its season would end, but that doesn’t diminish what the Preppers’ senior class achieved. US lost, 5-1, to St. Ignatius in a state semifinal this past weekend at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. US is 22-10-2 on the season. Ignatius went on to win the state championship, 4-1, over Sylvania Northview. Full story »
Hathaway Brown basketball team wins second straight Division II state championship

COLUMBUS - The Hathaway Brown basketball team won its second straight Divsion II state championship as the Blazers defeated Kettering Archbishop Alter 48-35 on Saturday at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus. Full story »
University School hockey team loses to St. Ignatius in state semifinal

COLUMBUS Everything changed for the University School hockey team in 57 seconds. The Preppers’ defense let them down, as St. Ignatius scored two quick goals to start the second period, which powered the Wildcats to a 5-1 state semifinal victory US Saturday at Nationwide Arena. Full story »

Regina basketball team disqualified from state tournament for using ineligible player

The OHSAA ruled last week that Regina used an ineligible player and was disqualified from the state girls’ basketball tournament. Regina is forced to forfeit all contests the player participated in, including the Royals’ 68-45 victory over Elyria Catholic in a Division III regional semifinal. Elyria Catholic advanced to the regional final where it lost, 58-30, to Smithville, which advanced to the state semifinals. Full story »
Benedictine bounces University School from district tournament

The Benedictine basketball team won a low-scoring affair with University School, with the Bengals defeating the Preppers, 46-35, in a Division II regional final. The victory puts Benedictine into a regional semifinal against Collinwood at 6:15 p.m. tonight at the Civic Center in Canton. The winner of that game will play the winner of the other semifinal, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary and Poland, in a regional final at 3 p.m. Saturday at Canton’s Civic Center. Full story »
Gilmour Academy hires Kelly Coughlin as new volleyball coach

Gilmour Academy has hired Kelly Coughlin as its new volleyball coach. Coughlin was serving as an assistant coach at Cleveland State University. Coughlin has been coaching for 19 years. He was an assistant coach at Olmsted Falls from 2004-08 and also was the junior varsity coach for the Bulldogs. He coached boys and girls volleyball at Brunswick from 1991-2000. Full story »
Hathaway Brown wins regional final to advance to state tournament

BARBERTON Hathaway Brown certainly didn’t play its best half of basketball after two quarters of play in a Division II regional final against Struthers. However, the defending state champion Blazers came out strong right away in the second half, using a suffocating defense to dominate the third quarter in their 63-35 victory over the Wildcats this past week in Barberton.
