Oops: Automatic call goes out in Linden announcing 'snow day'

LINDEN, Michigan -- Some parents Wednesday erroneously received a phone call telling them it was a "Snow Day."
Shortly after the error was detected another message went out notifying parents of the mistake and that school was in session. The media also was contacted.
Administrators did not notice any increase in student absences from the error.

Two to 6 inches of snow are expected to fall in Kalamazoo by Thursday, thanks mostly to a batch of lake-effect snow that will follow on the heels of a cold front tonight that will send temperatures plummeting into the teens and 20s, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids.

FLINT, Michigan -- Four rush-hour crashes in Flint forced police to shut down northbound I-475 at Bristol Road about 5 p.m. Monday.
There were no reports of serious injuries and it was unknown when the road will reopen.
Winter storm warning canceled

GRAND RAPIDS -- The National Weather Service has canceled the winter storm warning.
The heaviest snow has moved away from the region.
Any additional accumulation is forecasted to remain under 2 inches through tonight.
Consumers Energy working to restore electricity to 4,800 without power in Genesee County following weekend storm

GENESEE COUNTY, Michigan -- Consumer Energy crews are working to restore power to about 4,800 customers in Genesee County.
Spokeswoman Mary Gust said most of those outages -- about 2,800 -- are in the northside of Flint. About 600 people are without power in Flushing, and 400 each in Clio and Montrose-areas.

Snow will remain in the local weather forecast for the next few days. This morning, cars have been sliding off the snowy roads, but according to Southwest Michigan public safety officials, no injuries or major damage has been reported.

Sunday night and this morning saw widespread weather-related power failures and from 3 to 6 inches of snowfall along the I-69 corridor from Owosso to Port Huron. This morning, 3,600 Genesee County utility customers were without power, said Consumers Energy spokeswoman Laurie Larsen. GENESEE COUNTY, Michigan -- The Flint area was the hardest hit by Sunday's snowstorm, with widespread weather-related power failures and 3 to 6 inches of the white stuff falling along the I-69 corridor from Owosso to Port Huron.
The storm should continue to taper off throughout the day with another inch or two expected before it ends, said National Weather Service meterologist Bryan Tilley.

Saginaw County police and fire agencies kept busy this morning, fighting an "unusually heavy" snowstorm that knocked power out for 12,000 customers and resulted in 140 vehicle crashes.
"The significant thing here is the downed wires," said Tom McIntyre, Saginaw County Central Dispatch director. "They've been all across the county."
A Saginaw resident shovels heavy wet snow from the sidewalk on Hayes at North Porter in Saginaw. A late-fall storm dumped several inches of the wet slushy snow overnight. Another inch or two is expected during the day Monday.
