    HIGH SCHOOL BOWLING: North Ridgeville Rangers win over Keystone

    North Ridgeville's bowling team was a 2473-2300 winner over Keystone. Mike O'Sullivan led the way with a 465 two-game series, followed by Joe Sas 417, Collin Oliva 413, and Brandon Becka 365. Justin Harnden rolled one game, racking up a 181, while Adam Kotas shot 172.

    The JV team was a 2329-1601winner, led by Glenn Waligora's 419, David Mytnick's 401 and Mitch Bugala's 401. Matt Sas shot 375,while Phil Saad had a one-game total of 206 and Jerry Conaway a 147.

    Learn basic computer skills at the North Ridgeville Library

    The North Ridgeville Branch of the Lorain County Public Library, 35700 Bainbridge Road has scheduled three events to teach residents to become more computer savvy.
    A computers for beginners program will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 17. Learn computer basics such as using a mouse, identifying computer parts and how the Windows Vista operating system works. Practice time is included in the session.
    Internet for beginners programs will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 12 or at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 15. Learn internet basics, online search tools and pointers for evaluating Website content.
    A two hour E-mail workshop will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 19 and will demonstrate basic E-mail use, including setting up an account as well as sending and receiving messages. Participants should bring questions about E-mail for the instructor.
    Pre-registration is required for these three events. Participants may do so by calling the library at (440) 327-8326.



    Westlake High to host Indians town hall meeting

    CLEVELAND:
    The Cleveland Indians will hold one of the team's three town hall meetings with current and former season ticket holders at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Westlake High School's Performing Arts Center.
    The town hall format will provide Indians fans with the opportunity to engage in frank and honest dialogue with front office members of the Indians organization.
    Scheduled to appear at the Westlake town hall meeting are Eric Wedge, Chris Antonetti, Dennis Lehman and Bob DiBiasio.
    This is an invitation-only meeting and is free of charge to current and former Indians season ticket holders. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
    Westlake High School is located at 27830 Hilliard Road.



    COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Avon Lake/North Ridgeville's Kym Wenz is hottest scorer in NCAC

    Kym Wenz continues to be one of the hottest basketball players in the Division III Midwest Region. In three games last week, the Avon Lake alumna and North Ridgeville resident averaged 20.7 points per game, which included a series of three-point shooting sprees that saw her make 8-of-14 outside the semicircle, for the College of Wooster.

    In addition to her total of 62 points, Wenz recorded 22 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Wenz posted a double-double of 23 points and a career-high 11 boards in a 66-52 loss to Ohio Wesleyan. Wenz leads the North Coast Athletic Conference in scoring and steals. She was the league's scoring leader last year.

    Wenz will be playing locally Friday when the Fighting Scots travel to Ursuline College in Pepper Pike.



    "Indoguration" ceremony at the Grateful Dog Bakery

    The Grateful Dog Bakery, 31966 Center Ridge Road in North Ridgeville is celebrating the "Indoguration" of our 44th president with a "Howl to the Chief Day" from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 20.
    The bakery is offering a 10 percent discount on anything colored red, white or blue during the event. Participants who correctly answer questions about first dogs throughout history will receive a pawtriotic treat.
    "Since this election was such a big event for our country, we thought we'd do something special," owner Nancy Winrod said. "Owners can receive a nice discount and have some fun."

    HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY: Ed Zdolshek gets MVP; Cats topple nemesis to area powers

    GATES MILLS- St. Ignatius' hockey team won the Brother James Gilmour Tournament today by completing a weekend of defeating four teams from four different states/provinces.

    On Friday night the Wildcats defeated the No. 1-ranked team in Indiana, Hamilton Southeastern, 4-2, then beat Erie (Pa.) McDowell 2-1 in OT on Saturday morning and Naperville (Ill.) on Saturday night, 7-3. In the championship game this morning, Ignatius beat Ontario's Cardinal Newman, 2-1

    The win over Southeastern was significant in that it was the same team that defeated St. Edward and University School one week earlier in the Brother Nettleton Classic in Serpentini Arena.

    In the 4-2 win over Hamilton SE, the "Cats were down 1-0 with the game just 10 seconds old. Iggy tied it on a goal by senior Josh Smith at 14:00 of the first.

    Hamilton scored in the second, then SI's Karl Scheffler notched a power-play goal to tie the game at two. Thomas Paras (took the shot) and Asa Frebes (got the deflection) scored later in the period to make it 4-2. Ed Zdolshek had 25 saves in the win.

    Down 1-0 again against Erie McDowell, senior Patrick Nugent scored on a rebound goal to tie it in the second. It stayed 1-1 until overtime (3 on 3 format). 20 seconds into overtime, Karl Scheffler took a slapshot from the point, Ian Sewolich knocked the rebound to Chris Greve in front and Chris buried it for the win. Ed Zdolshek had 16 saves in the win.

    The Cats were up 2-0 vs. Naperville, IL, but the Chicagoland boys tied 2-2 heading into the third period. Iggy then broke it open with five goals. Scoring goals for Ignatius were Gus Weir (2), Josh Smith, Chris Greve, Jacob Riemenschneider, Shane Fitzgerald, and Ian Sewolich. Naperville scored with 18 seconds left to make it 7-3. Zdolshek had 27 saves in the win.

    In the finals, Shane Fitzgerald opened the scoring in the second period and Chris Greve notched a power play goal to make 2-0, Ignatius. Cardinal Newman scored a power play goal to close to 2-1, to close out the scoring. Zdolshek had 15 saves and was named tournament MVP. Fitzgerald, Greve, Paras, and Wyatt Pressick were all named all-tournament.
