Brad Friedel's Premier Soccer Academies team fell for the second night in a row in the last three minutes of the game today, falling to Chivas out of Mexico, 2-1, to take sixth in its own tourney. Chivas gets fifth.
Last night they lost to Blackburn (England) Rovers, 1-0, on a 79th minute goal. Today it came in the 78th minute by Oscar Torre with an assist from Carlos Esparza, who scored the first goal.
"I've played in tournaments in England and Atlanta," said Torre through a translator. "Those guys are more physical. The teams in this tourney played a quicker game, although their speed was not as good as the Brits."
Blackburn plays Colorado Rush tomorrow at 1:30 for the championship.
"Fitness was the key to this," PSA coach Desmond Armstrong said. "We just came into camp for two-a-days just last week. What we learned here is that we need to get in better shape to not get tired and let those late goals go in."

Local boys test best at Friedel tourney by chance

LORAIN -- Due to visa and passport issues, the Nigerian National team had to back out of the Brad Friedel Premier Soccer Academies World Youth Tourney, allowing PSA to enter its reserve team, allowing North Olmsted's Matt Foldesy, Avon Lake's Zach Martin and St. Edward's Joe Haught to play in today's match against Colorado Rush.
"It's neat to get to play against teams from other countries," said Martin, who also played in Sunday's match against the National team from Venezuela. "We have to play to their advantage and size and just helps improve our game."
All three were playing against boys at least two years older than them.
"We played one year up in the Dallas Cup, but here it was two years up," Foldesy said. "People come from various places and bring in different styles, which makes it harder."
