The city is home to Ursuline College and is one of five communities
belonging to the Orange public school system, which is regarded as one of the best in the state. The Orange schools offer small class sizes and the latest modern technology. There's a computer in every classroom and a computer lab in each building. 95% of the district's high school graduates go on to college and nearly 12% of the students in the class of 1997 were recognized as National Merit or National Achievement scholars. Last year's SAT scores were 104 points above the national average.
The various school buildings are spread out on one large, scenic campus, about 80% of which lies in
Pepper Pike.
Across the street from the campus is the Orange Senior
Center which provides a wide range of education, craft, exercise, music,
arts and cultural programs for the city's seniors. Two protestant
churches and three synagogues cater to the residents' spiritual needs.
Almost all of the city is zoned as residential so shopping in Pepper Pike is kept to a minimum. Landerwood Plaza provides grocery shopping at Heinen's and a handful of small stores. If
the shopping bug bites you, there are plenty of places nearby to spend
your money. Eastgate, Golden Gate and Beachwood Place are only minutes
away.
Golfers can enjoy an afternoon on the links at The Country Club or The Pepper Pike
Country Club. You can spend the day outdoors in the Emerald Necklace of the
Metroparks system located just east of town in Moreland Hills. The five
communities in the Orange school system celebrate Orange Jubilee each
May with carnival rides, too much food, fireworks and a parade. And if
you need to get to Cleveland, the town's western border runs smack into
I-271. Hop on and you'll be in the city in 20 minutes.
