Business owner Jack Amburgey gets creative to keep his Old Brooklyn storefronts filled

Jack Amburgey has been a fixture in Old Brooklyn since 1966. The Independence resident, 78, has owned a variety of businesses through the years, but these days he can usually be seen, wearing his favorite cowboy hats, in a section of storefronts he owns along Pearl Road. His newest venture has nothing to do with his 10-gallon millinery, but does involve gallons — of paint, that is. Full story »

Emergency repairs to Pleasant Valley Bridge likely to last 10 weeks

INDEPENDENCE -- Emergency work began Monday on the Pleasant Valley Bridge to replace sidewalks and railings. The county engineer’s department announced the project a week ago after the bridge, which is east of the intersection of Pleasant Valley and Riverview Road, failed inspection because of deterioration and unsafe condition of the sidewalks. Former Brunswick High assistant Mark Pinzone takes over Holy Name High School football program

Having been around a winning football program such as Brunswick for the past 15 years, Mark Pinzone knows what it takes to win. The former Blue Devil assistant now hopes to carry on that tradition as the new head coach at Holy Name. “I’m real excited. That was a personal goal of mine,” Pinzone said of earning his first head coaching gig. “After walking around the facility and talking to everybody it just seemed like a really good fit.” Full story »
State approves Parma school district's budget reduction plan

PARMA -- The state Education Department on March 9 approved as submitted a budget-reduction plan submitted by the school district, Superintendent Sarah Zatik said. The plan calls for trimming $6.9 million in fiscal year 2011, which begins in July. Full story »

PARMA -- Another resident here plans to run for Cuyahoga County Council. Matt Bolek, 39, pulled petitions from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.
