Parma: Rego's at York and Sprague to close
by

Wednesday December 03, 2008, 4:14 PM
NORTH ROYALTON -- Rego's Market has closed its stores in Brunswick Hills and North Royalton. The Strongsville store at Bennett's Corners remains open.
"It's the failure of the banking institution in providing us financing," said Sal Rego, partner and owner with wife Tammy Rego. "I have been looking for financing. I found only one 'friendly' bank. That was U.S. Bank but I didn't hear back from them. We had to close our doors."
The Brunswick Hills store opened in June 2007 at Marks and Center roads. It closed last week.
This week, shoppers at the North Royalton's Rego's at Sprague and York roads can buy items at 50 percent off. Once those are gone, so is the store. It opened in April. The former Tops store was renovated into Rego's largest market at 52,000 square feet.

Parma: Animal shelter sponsors essay contest for middle school students
by Sun News
Thursday November 27, 2008, 9:05 AM
Area students are encouraged to submit their entries for the 2008-2009 Middle School Student Essay Contest. The contest topic is "Homeless Pets in Crisis -- Problem, Causes and Solutions." It is open to Parma, Parma Heights and Seven Hills residents in grades seven and eight.
Students should research the plight of homeless pets living in their own neighborhoods and those living in cages in crowded animal shelters and discuss the topic with their families, teachers and friends. There also should be some reflection on what the topic means to them personally, as well as its implications for our society as a whole.
Students are urged to think creatively about solutions and actions. A private donor has provided funding specifically for the contest and three awards will be granted. Entries must be post-marked, e-mailed or delivered in person on or before Jan. 31. Winners will be notified by March 15.
For information, visit parmashelter.org for a link to Middle School Student Essay Contest.
