  • As you drive down any street in Oakwood Village, you may notice something missing. Oddly enough, none of the streets in the five square mile area of the Village contain sidewalks.

The main drag through town is Broadway (which has sidewalks in a few spots) but every subdivision is constructed without them. Also unique to the area is the fact that no multiple family homes are available. New subdivisions are springing up containing single family dwellings. You can even own up to two horses, providing you own at least five acres of land.

People are attracted to this area which is bordered by Bedford, Solon, Macedonia and Twinsburg because of its scenic, country feeling. It's close to Downtown Cleveland (about 20 miles) but yet still maintains a low profile.

It has only been within the last six years that the Village has opened its doors to more commercially-based retail businesses. Restaurants such as Taco Bell, McDonald's, Wendy's and Subway have set up shop. But residents have been quick to say "that's enough" by recently passing an ordinance not allowing any more fast-food restaurants to enter the city limits. For those not wishing to patronize the newcomers, the Village has a number of "mom and pop" restaurants that have been around for years. Long-time residents frequent Chaloupka, which is a sandwich deli and the oldest establishment in Oakwood.

Besides grabbing a bite to eat in Oakwood, residents enjoy activities such as a well-organized recreation program where children go on field trips and may also participate in sporting activities. During the dog days of summer, open air concerts are held in the Village gazebo every Thursday evening. Different bands are featured and snacks are offered. The community is well-mixed culturally and welcomes anyone looking for a nice, quiet place to live.
