    Lakewood has two relays take fourth at Berea

    BEREAMedina might have claimed the boys crown with Brunswick following closely at the Berea Kiwanis Relays, but Westlake, Lakewood and Fairview all had their moments.

    The Bees scored 144 points followed by the Blue Devils with 128 at Finnie Stadium on the campus of Baldwin-Wallace College. Westlake had 50 points for ninth while the Rangers were 11th with 36 points. Fairview trailed the 12-team field with 11.

    Pacing the Demons was Shane Skelly, who was tied for fifth in the high jump relay with a best effort of 6 feet. He was joined by Jerome Montalvo, who was at 5-6 to give the Demons five team points.

    The Demons and Rangers both scored in the discus relay with the Demons getting seven markers behind Elias Chbeir, who was ninth at 119-4. He was joined by Alex Tegel (20th, 103-4) and Brad Spreng (25th, 97-3) while Lakewood got one point from the combined efforts of Brian Lupton (16th, 106-8), Jason Kornfeld (23rd, 101-9) and Thomas Grane (33rd, 83-9).

    Chbeir also led the Demon shot put relay with a 44-5 to place seventh individually. The Demons got four points as Tegel and John Rodriguez both went over 33 feet. Fairview scored seven points when Dan Moore led the Warriors with a ninth place finish at 42-10 followed closely by Alex Russell who was 13th at 40-11 and Ryan Taylor was tied for 17th at 40-5.

    Lakewood's Lupton was 14th at 40-11 to pace the Rangers to one team points with the combined efforts of Michael Wooley and Kornfeld who both topped 34 feet and reached the top 30.

    Another Demon three points came in the long jump relay, where Alex Schultz was 13th, Skelly was 22nd and Montalvo was 33rd.

    On the track, Lakewood got a fourth from Matt Miller in the 3,200-meter run with a 10:08.13 in an event won by David Knack of Medina in 9:46.91. Taking sixth was Robert Schill of Westlake in 10:47.58....
