Highland Heights is located in Cuyahoga County approximately 12 miles east of downtown, occupying an area of approximately 5.2 square miles. The municipal boundaries are Lake County on the north, Mayfield Village on the east, the cities of Mayfield Heights and Lyndhurst on the south and the City of Richmond Heights on the west. The city celebrated its 80th Anniversary in May of 2000. In those 80 years, Highland Heights has grown into a vibrant community with lots to offer in the areas of recreation, shopping, business and industry and services. Families can take advantage of the Highland Heights Community Park, located at 5905 Wilson Mills Road. The 32-acre park contains a swimming pool with a baby pool, diving area and bath house. A wide range of swimming lessons are offered as well as open swimming, June through September. There are eight tennis courts, four lighted for late night players. An extensive baseball program is played on seven baseball diamonds (six lighted). For the younger base players, there's T-Ball for 5 and 6 year olds. Families take advantage of the popular Day Camp program offered each summer for children between the ages of 5 and 12. Hoopsters will find basketball courts located in the center of the park. There are two covered pavilions for large parties or picnic groups as well as picnic tables and grilling facilities throughout the park. As the city's population grows, land is available to expand the park. A small plot of land located in the Highland Woods Development west of Miner Road has been developed into a picnic area. The Highland Heights Community Center, adjacent to City Hall, is used by civic and community groups free of charge. It is available to residents of the community for their own private and personal parties for a rental fee, but get your name in early as rooms are rented on a first-come, first-serve basis. And, if shopping is your thing, you don't have to go far. There are several small neighborhood convenience shopping areas located in the city. Richmond Town Center, as well as other area malls with first-class department stores and specialty shops are adjacent to Highland Heights via Interstate 271. Smaller shopping centers with a variety of merchants are within ten minutes of the community.
