    Lady Trojans get back to winning ways

    It usually doesn't take long for quality athletic programs to turn things around.

    After a tough week, the Trinity High softball team proved its resiliency in a big way with three victories, putting the Lady Trojans atop the North Coast League-White Division with a 4-0 record.

    The week started off in fine fashion as coach Ed DiFiore's team earned an exciting win over NCL rival Padua, 2-1.

    Both the Lady Trojans and Bruins were deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Following a walk and error by the Padua defense, Trinity's Kristen Wotowiec delivered the game-winning RBI by lacing a single through the middle of the infield.

    Junior pitcher Sydney Mosby went the distance working all seven frames for her sixth win of the season while only allowing four hits. Mosby was again consistent in and around the plate, keeping Lady Bruin batters off balance on her way to an impressive 12-strikeout performance.

    Senior co-captain Emily Bendzak was perfect with three hits in as many at-bats while Mosby and sophomore Amy Ferfolia (Sagamore Hills) each contributed with a pair of hits. Senior Stephanie Minotas and sophomore Dawna Sargent also backed up the pitching effort of Mosby with timely hitting in the latter innings.

    Later, it was another tight victory over a NCL opponent as Trinity defeated St. Peter Chanel, 3-0.

    Mosby was the pitcher of record, fanning 11 Lady Firebirds and allowing just five hits in her fourth shutout of the season.

    Wotowiec collected a pair of hits to lead Trinity offensively with Minotas adding a clutch hit later in the game to provide Mosby and the team with a little extra breathing room. Freshman Catherine Hantak singled and stole two bases to help her team and scored the third run on a hit by Mosby....
