Breakout shows are rare in Northeast Ohio, but the Gianna Commito exhibition at William Busta Gallery in Cleveland certainly qualifies. The show, filled with dazzling geometric abstractions in watercolor and casein on panels and paper, is the first solo outing in the region by the 33-year-old North Carolina native, who earned a master of fine arts degree at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 2003. A rare, valuable and extremely heavy piece of Cleveland patrimony is on sale this week in New York during the Winter Antiques Show at the Park Avenue Armory on East 67th Street. The work in question is a seven-ton monumental vase carved in pink Tennessee marble by sculptor Paul Manship in 1916 for the Bratenahl estate of William Gwinn Mather, known as Gwinn. Full story »

The university administration is negotiating to buy an early-20th-century office and loft building at 1901 East 13th St. owned by Middough Inc., an architecture, engineering and management company with offices in 17 U.S. cities including Chicago, Atlanta and Phoenix.
